Ambro Poker Page Ambro 9 - April 16, 2004 A letter from the Tournament director:
Hello all, here is a little recap of what went
down at the 9th Ambro Hold Em Tournament. The
dynasty of Whip Snyder is officially over. Out
of the 35 people that entered this tournament,
11 were newcomers. It was a Greek invasion as we
had 7 Greeks playing in this tournament. Of the
7, 3 got prize money. Ken Markakis put in a
strong performance grabbing 5th place. The last
tournament he was in (3/31/2000), he had an
early exit, being the 2nd one out. 4th place
went to Steve who put a major dent into Ken's
chips at one point going all in with an Ace high
flush against Ken's King high flush. That hand
was the turning point for Ken. Next up, we have
former champion Tony Ambrosio taking 3rd place.
He played very well throughout this tournament
eliminating 4 time champion Whip Snyder. (Whip
finished in 23rd place this tournament). Tony
got eliminated again by Mike Swartz for the 2nd
straight tournament. On the board was,
7-6-Ace-7-6. Mike puts Tony to the test and goes
all in. (Mike had A LOT more chips than Tony did
at the time). Tony decides to call and both had
an Ace in their hole, but Mike had a 10, so he
eliminates Tony with Aces and sevens with a 10
kicker. So, finally we are down to 2
people...Mike Swartz and newcomer Al DeVito. The
head to head action went on for about 35
minutes. Mike had a significant chip lead over
Al, but the newcomer just kept staying alive.
Throughout the night, Al caught many river cards
that kept him in the tournament. I remember one
hand he went all in and caught 2 running spades
to catch the flush and remain in the tournament.
Last tournament, Whip was known as the "River
Man".....this tournament, Al gets that award.
The final hand came down to Mike going all in
before the flop and Al calling with about 1200
left in chips. They turned over their cards and
both guys had pairs. Al had a pair of 6's and
Mike had 7's. The flop was K-J-J. 4th street was
an 8 and the river was a 9. Mike wins the
tournament with two pairs, Jacks and 7's to Al's
Jacks and 6's. The tournament ended at 3:45AM.
Stay tuned for announcements for the 10TH
Ambro Texas Hold-Em Tournament. No reports of
any date yet, but I will keep you all posted.
Attached is a picture of the final hand.
