Ambro 12 - March 19, 2005

A letter from the Tournament director:

Well, another Ambro Tournament came and went....and I still do not have a title. I am not happy! I am long overdue!!! Congrats to my brother, Tony, for winning the 12th Ambro Tournament. This is his second title. I wanted to be the first Ambro to win 2. I guess I should concentrate on winning one first.
This tournament had 8 newbies in it and 3 of them finished in the clams. Former champion, Nick, did not last too long in this one. He lasted only 2 hours and placed 30th. He had predicted that he was either going to be out in the 30's or in the Top 5. Ray Wolff, the 2004 Player of The Year didn't last much longer....he placed 27th. 4 time Champ, Whip had an early exit...he placed 25th. He didn't even stay for the sides games...he pulled a Phil Hellmuth and just left. I started off strong, getting some really nice cards and some really nice flops. It soon came crashing down when I lost a huge pot with pocket kings to pocket aces. George L. had the pocket aces and he caught fire all the way to the final table. After that hand, I didn't know what to do. I suddenly became short stacked and blew a few hands that I should have called. I was rattled and couldn't recover. I finished in 18th place. There goes my streak of being in the Top 15.
Harry, who finished 2nd in Ambro 11, was short stacked all night and placed 15th. Stats man, Jay M, who has been struggling the last few tournaments finished in 14th place. The Greek run ended when both John A. and Steve were ousted in the 13th and 12th position. Anton had a good run, but that came to a halt...he placed 11th. Now we got our Top 10....The Enterpise Crew (Dino, Brad, Art and George L.) all finished in the Top 10...do these guys work or just gamble all day???  Dino placed 10th, Al D. was 9th place, Scott A., who was late to the tournament, finished 8th...one seat shy of the final table. Russo had a good outing, but was 1 away from the money...he finished in 7th place. Newcomer Brad was next finishing in 6th place and winning 200 clams. Another newcomer Carter placed 5th and won 300 clams. Hank finally put all his WPT  viewings to good use...he placed 4th and won 500 clams. Art, another first timer, placed 3rd and won 1000 clams.
What a run Tony went on. He was catching cards on the river like I have never seen before. He had massed a ton of chips and gave a lot back when it was down to 2 tables. He did give some back with some questionable calls, but he was saved quite some time on the river. I recall 2 hands he needed a Queen to stay alive and both times the Queen falls on the river for him. Another one, he needed a 3 for a straight...what comes on the river, a 3. At one point when it was down to George and Tony, George called an all in bet by Tony and ended up winning. George had a huge chip lead at this point....Tony had about 3600 in chips to George's 32,400 in chips. Tony stormed back to take the title. The last hand went as follows...Tony had 8  7 of diamonds. George had K  7 off suit. Flops comes 4D KD QH....Tony moves all in with a flush draw and George quickly called with top pair, Kings. What comes on the turn...the 10 of diamonds giving Tony the flush and the title.
