Ambro Poker Page Ambro 11 - October 8, 2004 A letter from the Tournament director:
Wow, what a night again. We had a record
breaking number of entries...36 beating the old mark of 35.
Maybe next tournament I will have another table in the
garage. Just kidding...36 will be the max. Well, we had 7
first timers in this 11th edition and 3 of them finished in
the Top 5 and 2 of them in the Top 3...quite impressive.
The tournament started at 9:37PM. First off, I would like to
point out that the record for quickest exit was not broken
on Friday. We lost our first player 30 minutes into the
game. Svet, you still hold onto that record of 7 minutes.
Speaking of Svet, he put on a strong performance this time.
Even though he took some big hits, he still had many chips
to play with. He was getting good cards all night. His run
though finally came to a halt at 1:28AM when he called with
King high and lost. He finished in 13th place.
Our bad
beat of the night goes to Hank, who went all in with a full
house. He got beat by Ray Wolff, who had four 6's. Ouch!!
Hank was 35th place and lasted only 34 minutes. Former
champion (9th Ambro Tournament) Mike Swartz also had an
early exit. He placed 32nd. There was a little controversy
with his exit, but we will not go into that. Two other
former champions also had early exits. Dino and Tony could
not make crack the Top 20 this time as they both placed
25th and 22nd respectively.
Ray Wolff,
who has finished in the Top 10 the last 3
tournaments, finished in 21st place. He was eliminated at
12:02 AM. 4 time champion Whip Snyder followed Ray soon
after. He was next to go at 12:09AM. He went all in and John
Abadio called with an Ace High Nut Flush. This is where John
Abadio started taking over as chip leader.
After
losing a few more players, we got down to the final two
tables (12:43AM). Reigning champ, Nick Palmucci is still
alive. At this point, I was still in the game, looking for
my first title. My chip count wasn't that impressive, but I
was hanging on. At one point, I went all in and 2 people
called. I ended up winning the hand and tripling up. It
didn't help as the cards went sour and I placed 9th. The
title was not to be, but being the ONLY player in the Top 15
for the past 4 tournaments....at least I have that!! I will
get the title one of these times...mark my word!
I was
ousted at 1:57AM and now we had 2 tables of 4 people. We
needed just 1 more person to get eliminated to get to our
Final Table. It almost took an hour to lose another
player. Bobby was next to go and finished in 8th place.
(2:49AM)
We finally
have our final table....or do we......when Bobby got
eliminated, the remaining players at that table drew cards
to move to Table 1. Table 1 was still playing a hand. Scott
decided to move all in on one of the newbies, Hef. Scott
moved all in after the flop came 9-10-4 (I dont remember if
it was a 4, but that card was irrelevant). Scott had pocket
Queens and Hef, who had more chips than Scott had a BIG
decision to make. If he called and lost, Scott would be our
chip leader and Hef would have not too many chips. He
thought long and hard and decided to call with a 9-10 in his
hole. He ended up winning the hand with two pair, 10's and
9's. Scott was gone from the tournament at 2:51 AM and
couldn't even enjoy the Final Table.
Surprisingly, next to go was John Abadio, as his chip lead
got chipped away minute by minute. He placed 6th and exited
the tournament at 3:29AM. So, now we have 5 players
remaining. They are.....reigning champ, Nick Palmucci
(hanging on at this point for dear life), Amont, and the 3
newcomers....Hef, Mike S. and Harry. Next to go was Mike S.
at 3:34AM. He put on a very impressive showing.
Anytime
someone wins a tournament, the following one, he/she becomes
the hunted. Everyone is going after this person so they do
not become a repeat champion. We have a few repeat champions
(Joann Hutson was our first back to back champion winning
the 2nd and 3rd Ambro Tournaments. Whip Snyder became our
first 3 peat champion winning Ambro 6, 7 and 8.) Nick had a
big target on him, but he came to play and had another great
finish. He took 4th place and was eliminated not too long
after Mike S. (3:37AM).
Now, we
are down to 3 players......and what do they do.....a first
for the Ambro Tournaments....they decide to split.....but we
need to have champion.....so, I told them they have to deal
out one hand to decide the winner of Ambro 11. They all
agreed and this is how it went....
Amont - A-J
Harry - 7 -6
Hef - 3-7
Board
2-5-7-Q-A
Amont is our
new champion with a winning hand of Aces. He has missed all
of the tournaments in 2004 and was only in a total of 3, yet
he managed to hold on and take the title. I recall when we
were down to 2 tables, he had a short stack and was all in.
He happened to win that hand and a lot more as he caught
fire all the way to the title. Congrats to our new champion,
Amont!!!! Attached, as always, is the picture of the winner
of the 11th Ambro Texas Hold'Em Tournament.
Thanks to
all who entered and stayed tuned for the 12th Ambro Texas
Hold'Em Tournament....the one I will be winning!!!!
Mike
