Ambro Poker Page Ambro 10 - May 7, 2004 A letter from the Tournament director:
Well, as
always, here is a little recap of what went down last
Friday night at the 10th Ambro Texas Hold Em Tournament.
A new record was set in this tournament. The quickest
exit by a player now goes to Svet "I got a straight"
Milic. The tournament started at 9:42PM and he was out 7
minutes later at 9:49PM. Kenny, who had three queens
goes all in on Svet, who decides to call him. Svet sends
all his chips into the pot and turns up his cards. What
does he have.....well, it is now to be known as a
Serbian straight....that is a 4 card straight. Svet had
to learn the hard way, but he made his money back in the
side games all night downstairs. Coming out of
retirement was 2 time winner Joann Hutson. She should
have stayed retired.....she had an early exit being the
3rd one out(33rd place). Finishing in 26th place was
last tournament runner up Al. The river was all dried up
for him this time. Tony Ambrosio (last tourney, he got
3rd place) had a poor performance in this one, finishing
24th place. 4 time champion Whip Snyder didn't crack the
Top 10 for a second straight tournament. He finished
15th place. Mike Swartz, the winner of the 9th
tournament, went ALL IN with nothing and Nick Palmucci(
2-time runner up) called him and eliminated the reigning
champion. Mike Swartz finished in 10th place. Ray Wolf
put in another strong performance making it to another
final table. His 2nd final table in 3 tournaments. He
finished in 6th place. He has been in only 3 tournaments
and all three he has finished in the Top 10. (3rd, 9th
and 6th) If you end up at his table the next tournament,
be on high alert. In 5th place we have Scott A. He
should have made it to the final 3 at least...with all
those chips that he had.....he had pocket Kings and was
out to the test by Nick Palmucci who went ALL IN on him.
If Scott called the bet, he would only have about $40
left. (Nick went ALL IN for $2530). There was an Ace and
a Queen on the board and Scott didn't know if Nick had
an Ace or a Queen. Scott finally made his decision and
called the bet. It turns out Nick had both an Ace and a
Queen. That was it for Scott.........he stayed to watch
the others play, but couldn't stop thinking about that
bad call. That was a tough one. Brian (Derek's friend)
finished in 4th place and Derek took 3rd place. This
brings us to the final two....Nick Palmucci and Kenny.
Nick had a nice chip lead going into the head to head
play. Nick got one of his stacks taken out when he bet
about 3000, putting Kenny all in. Kenny calls with a
pair of Jacks. Nick had a pair of tens. The flop came 7,
8, Queen. 4th street was another 8 and the river was an
8, giving both of them full houses, but Kenny had the
Jacks. After that beat, Nick went to the bathroom, to
regroup. It apparently helped as he turned the tables
back in his favor. The final hand....Nick had 4 of
spades and 9 of spades. Kenny had Ace of spades and the
nine of clubs. The flop was Ace of Hearts, 2 of spades
and 3 of spades. Some betting went on...then 4th street
was the 6 of spades giving Nick a flush. He decides to
go ALL IN and Kenny quickly called hoping for a spades.
When they turned up their cards, Nick was screaming for
anything but a spade to fall. Being a runner up twice,
Nick didn't want to be the Buffalo Bills of the Poker
World. He would not settle for another 2nd place finish.
To his delight, the 4 of hearts was the river card. Nick
gave out a big scream after that.....waking up Penny,
who came running out to see who the winner was.
Congratulations to Nick Palmucci for winning the 10th
Ambro Texas Hold Em Tournament. He has a little time to
keep his title......he gets to defend it sometime in
October......when we have the 11th Tournament. Take
care and see you all in October.
